Our Year In Review
We are proud of what we have accomplished
from October 2023 to October 2024.

Advocating For Trees
We assembled multiple transportation regional plans to advocate locally and regionally for protecting the forest area against major transportation infringement.

Greening
Schoolyards
Treekeepers is working with numerous partners to launch the new Cool Schools program at of our targeted pilot schools. This year we laid the groundwork and wrote grants so that those school playgrounds and grounds will be cool and safe for children and the larger community by ensuring there are trees for shade, drought resistant plants and usable garden spaces.

Speakers
In both webinars and in-person sessions, experts share their knowledge with us on a wide variety of topics. The recordings are available on the Webinar page of our website, or on our YouTube channel. In this past year 382 registrants benefited from five excellent speakers.

Pulling Ivy
English ivy (Hedera helix) is an exotic invasive species. It can attach itself to a tree’s bark and head upward into the tree’s crown,a serious problem that can weaken or even topple trees. This year numerous volunteers contributed 122 hours of work to girdle ivy on 151 trees and clear the ground around them.

Tracking New Developments
We attended multiple neighborhood meetings which gave visibility to communities into Treekeepers’ mission. We reviewed the Middle & Affordable Housing Development Application process in regards to community engagement to ensure the public has the best possible access given new state directives on streamlining housing development process.

Tree Walks
Our tree walks are a fun way to share our love for trees. learn from each other, and make new friends. This year we hosted 17 guided tree walks in a number of locations across Washington County, with a total of 128 participants.

Following Changes For Significant Natural Resources
Treekeepers provided testimony for Washington County's SNR Policy Ordinances 091 and 902, participating in the Technical Advisory Committee, the Committee for Community Involvement's SNR Subcommittee, Community Participation Organizations, and coordinating with other natural resource advocates.

Nominating
Heritage Trees
...or building partnerships. This year we nominated three trees at Cedar Mill's historic Young House. The Heritage Tree Committee was very favorable toward the nomination, and it awaits final steps of approval. Additionally, we engaged an arborist to develop a program for the survival of a community cherished oak tree at Jose Elementary School.
